Row house in sumiyoshi  Sumiyoshi-ku,Osaka, Japan.
From the picture,we can see that there are no openings around the row house  which means no large windows), but  the patio link the interior space and exterior space .light into the room by the wall of patio , making the dark space became bright(Jodidio,2013).

The patio in row house
Light through completely open of the patio into interior space, so row house has light, wind, water, air, this  space like a small universe.Patio is a transitional space, it is also the center of the entire building.

Row house has  small windows on the wall, not only ventilation and cooling, but also let the lighting into the room.

Fragment,light , link and space

concept diagram

Today,I find some great design and post on my blog as my design source.May be in the next time, they will give me some great ideas.

The exterior shape of this building  looks like a simple cube. However, the interior consists of two layers .
When I saw this project in the begging,I totally shocked,I ask myself,is it really? Yes,this resident in Japan and has 4 rooms. When I first saw this project,I think many fragment in this building. The angular windows through the walls, ceilings and the roof.I think those fragment as the "link" in this building.

In different direction, people can see different space through those angular windows.

The walls and ceilings are interrupted by angular windows in the walls and ceilings.

The designer said:"Although I spaced the cubes out, the interrelatedness of their angles of inclination connect them, creating a sense of continuity." I think this is a magic sense of continuity.

From the same window, people can see different space in the same time.

The top light on the ceiling  filled up light  in the room during the daytime. And the light come from different direction and mix in the interior. In this way,the light  bringing out more layers of complexity to the already diverse interior condition.

Frame house

This is a traditional British house ,but when people enter to inertial space which give us other feeling .  May be designer wants give us mix feeling when we see this building in different way.For example  British style  outside, Japanese style inside.
Designer use wood as main material to decorate this building.Wood give us a feeling of close nature. If ask me which worlds describe wood,I think simple and pure must in my mind.

Designer has added l  wood frame partitions and window , in order to   bring more light into this house.

Just a bookcase in the wall which give us a feeling of pure. When people walk in this space, they will feeling quiet.

The designer said that a large roof light over the stairs allowed light to flood down to the ground floor.I think its a smart way to get more light into the building and no need break the whole building.

open the mind

Many times ,I need open mind to think about my design ,research and other project.I like this project,so post it in my blog. Why I like this design, because this project has many factors very useful for my concept. As a family house, this project has some significant aspects, such as private aspect, close to nature, rich spatial variation and so on.

When I fist saw this project, this walll give me very deep impression, especially this gap in the wall.

Use the glass as wall, not only has enough light but also has good view .

I like this part very much. This project has a deck ,in order to let people close to the nature. So I also use this way in my project.

From this plan,I can see that the project has three main part.In some normally buildings, the plan get together, but this project has three separate part.It gives me some new inspiration.

The magic of shadow and light ---residence building

In Japan, due to the lack of space, many building generally has small land area, and close to the narrow streets. There is no close relationship  between neighborhoods, replaced by the rapid development of the country.EASTERN Design Office has design goal to create an interior for residents living environment and protect the important things about their lives, such as the sky, land and light and so on.

The inner courtyard or garden feels like stepping into a modern temple, designers design a land on the narrow vertical space,so this space beyond the meaning of residential living group .
The inner courtyard  has a cylinder,in this way,the sky, the ground, and light was built out.
The entire building's elevation is a huge relief charcoal gray cherry trees, such as independent works of art decorate the surroundings.

Space & Light in Architecture

Light is special  material in architecture.

“The sun does not realise how wonderful it is until after a room is made."
